Accepting What Is
“I finally figured out the only reason to be alive is to enjoy it”.
~Rita Mae Brown
If there is one common denominator in Claim Your Worth!® work that I do with
clients – whether in groups or in private sessions – it is: helping you to
balance your future aspirations while maintaining everyday peace of mind.
Not such an easy mission when everything in our society screams at us to do
more, be more, have more, and accomplish more. Yet, this balance of
experiencing everyday peace while still aspiring and accomplishing what you
desire is possible- it takes choice however.
And the choice it requires is to accept ‘what is’ right now, without feeling
like you’re resigning to ‘what is’.
And this choice and task is much, much easier said than done. Yet it’s what I
believe is the only way to truly enjoy life –and to experience any type of
peace of mind – because we live in a dualistic Universe that has ebbs and flows
– sometimes things are ‘up’ and sometimes they are ‘down’ - but imagine if you
could learn to accept – and sometimes enjoy ‘what is’ – regardless of going on.
Ahh, what a concept.
Again, much easier said than done.
Can you relate with any of these feelings and statements: This just shouldn’t
be! Things should be different than they are! My situation shouldn’t look like
this. I should be further along by now. I should be able to accomplish much
more in a day than I do – what’s wrong with me!
Not only are there a ton of ‘shoulding on yourself’ in those statements – there
is a ton of discontent and resistance - and when we resist any type of
situation, the situation or circumstance continues to persist.
If you’re unhappy with anything in your life right now – or just feeling in
your heart and soul that it should be different – or you should feel
differently – consider taking some inventory of what you think should be
different.
Now, ask yourself, when that different outcome comes into fruition, what are
your hoping to experience in terms of feelings from that outcome?
Now, consider what you can do to experience what it is that you desire to
experience now, today, without anything changing in your life. Can you imagine
it?
Can you believe that it is possible to actually feel what you desire to feel
now – rather than in the future - without having anything change – or having an
object, person or circumstance come into your life to fill any void – or give
you a feeling that you desire to feel?
Learning to accept ‘what is’ – and sometimes - learn to enjoy ‘what is’ - regardless
of what that ‘is’, requires all of us to buff our spiritual maturity muscles –
and to accept that sometimes the circumstance and situation isn’t always what
we want, but it’s usually what we need.
And the beautiful – actually miraculous thing that happens as a result of
accepting ‘what is’ – is - your future aspirations begin to take shape – and
begin to mold into reality.
Why?
Because you’ve stop resisting – you’ve made a decision to say ‘yes’ to the now,
and as a result of doing that, you can actually see how your current
circumstance(s) could be shaping your tomorrow – and that the gifts that are in
the ‘now’ are actually presents in the present!
This concept isn’t a cut-and-dry one – and one that requires more discussion
around it. Yet, consider that whatever it is that your heart and soul desires
to be different right now – that your current circumstance –whatever that it is
– is actually the exact nutrient and ingredient that your juicy future needs to
grow and evolve.
Once you can consider this Truth, and accept it, then I encourage you to allow
yourself to watch the miracles that begin to unfold in your life – almost
immediately – as a result of you accepting and deciding to not resist what is.
And you’ll see rather quickly, that you don’t have a do a thing to have your
future be shaped by accepting ‘what is’ – your acceptance and non-resistance is
enough for those changes and newness to take place.
Therefore, my only question to you is: will you allow the present to be a gift?
As always, it’s your choice.
