Be Your Own Best Valentine

Osho: “I say be creative. I don't mean that you should all go and become great painters and great poets. I simply mean let your life be a painting, let your life be a poem.”

Your loving heart and soul are the poem. Each one of us is a prayer to the sky, a star shining fiercely on a frigid winter’s night. When you embrace your brilliance you live in the infinite field, where your soul belongs. Every dazzling speck of your beauty and love contribute to the great mosaic of life. Marianne Williamson, As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others.”

The love you feel for yourself and others is a valentine that needs no embellishments of glitter and frills. Remember when you were a child and how much receiving a valentine meant to you? That child’s pure loving energy is still there inside you, waiting for expression. Imagine loving yourself even more, embracing a galaxy of self-love. How would your day be different? Perhaps you would treat yourself a little better, with kinder self-talk and gentler ways of moving through your day. Would you give yourself moments to breathe, time where you stop and actually be with what you are feeling? Would you give yourself the nurturance and self-care you need daily? When you take the time to love yourself and treat yourself sacredly, others will treat you sacredly as well. We attract more of what we want quicker and easier when we radiate self-love.

Routines, patterns and behaviors call to me with the surety of familiarity. I believe it’s easier to focus on mistakes, inadequacies and the desire to get “things” accomplished.  Hiding my light under a bushel basket of negative self worth and has never worked to help me to be all of who I can be. My old fears tell me that I am far from greatness. I can choose differently now, and resist old patterns. Today my soul lovingly calls me to take one more step towards my own brilliance, one more step and still be safe. My inner child says “Why can we not take a leap?” As long as I am listening to my soul I have a world to gain. Dear Valentine; I offer you a world of good, a world of shining self, a world of love. Will you be mine?

This week’s exercise has two parts, one is to make a valentine for yourself, and the other is to write up the feelings you have with this experience. Will you write a poem, make a collage, or take paper and glitter and make yourself a childlike valentine?  Or maybe the valentine will be a foot massage or a bubble bath complete with candles? Take the time to be loving towards yourself, fully embrace your inner child’s expressive love. For a moment stop being so sober, responsible, and cautious, and allow yourself to be more playful, rebellious, and immature. Remember you are that poem; all you have to do is remember that you are you own best valentine. Rumi: “I have come to drag you out of yourself and take you in my heart. I have come to bring out the beauty you never knew you had and lift you like a prayer to the sky.” Go ahead shine your light!
