To College With Love
It’s
finally here: that week I’ve worked for, anticipated and at the same time
dreaded for months. This is the week we take our son--our only
child--to college. This is the week all the parenting has led us and
him to; the week we’ll begin an entirely new chapter of our lives together,
apart and in ways yet uncharted.
Those of
you who have passed this milestone already can offer solace and wisdom to
those of us just beginning the journey. You can remind us that this
indeed is what is supposed to happen; that there is life after this; that a new
adventure for all of us is about to unfold. And you can remind us that
we’ve done what we could to prepare ourselves and our sons and daughters for
this moment in time.
A while
back I decided to write up a “mom’s
college and life survival guide” with tips and advice on
everything from how to do a load of laundry (and not end up with pink
underwear!) to the importance of time management. I’ve come up with quite
a few of my own nuggets, but I thought since you my wonderful readers have been
so generous with your support and advice in the past, I’m hoping you’ll help me
add to the list based on your “best practices” with your college-age sons and
daughters.
Thanks so
much for helping me send our son off “to college with love.” I’ll keep
you posted.
Have a
wonderful and productive week.
