Dealing With Anxiety

Last week a client explained that she’s been dealing with a tremendous amount of fear – and just an overwhelming sense of anxiety. She explained how her lower stomach is in knots and she just can’t relax – or have any type of hope - or trust - that the future will look any brighter.

She explained how the nerves are gripping her from being productive and she just doesn’t know what to do to get out of the cycle. When I explained a different type of approach that she may try, she was truly shocked. I asked her to consider – what if that anxiety in your belly and those feelings of nerves are just reversed power? And what if, you give those nerves and all those pockets of fear a voice?

After much silence she asked: Why would I want to do that?

Wise woman eh’?

I understand the wisdom in that question don’t you? Why would you ever want to go into the scary places? Isn’t it easier to just wish the ‘bad’ and uncomfortable feelings would just go away? Wouldn’t it be easier to just pretend that you feel good, do positive affirmations about how great things are, and wish for the best?

Sure, doing affirmations are tremendously powerful when you’re at an awareness level where you simply need to remind yourself of the Truth that you already know every day.

But what if, that anxiety, those nerves, and that fear are lies that can’t be ignored or covered up by trying to be positive? And what if those nerves are lies in disguise that need to be heard, felt, processes, and let go of in order to move onward and upward in your life?

See the thing is – the fear is never going to go away as long as you’re continuing to evolve and grow to new levels in life. And if you get to a point where the fear becomes unbearable and you’d rather just settle into a place of ‘safety’ and ‘security’ – knowing full-well you really don’t belong there, your soul won’t let you be.

See, for someone who is destined to creatively express yourself, your soul won’t let you settle. Your soul won’t let you be in a place that doesn’t feel right and true. And as you continue to evolve and grow, it will speak to you through your body – and oftentimes, anxiety, fear, and nerves can be a place that it gets your attention.

Radical approach isn’t it? And the Truth is - this approach isn’t for everyone – but it is for you if you know deep down that you’re sitting on a mound of potential – yet you feel tired, weighed down, and bummed-out because you have absolutely no idea what to with it all – and anytime you consider expressing it or making a change- those nervous emotions literally get the best of you!

So, what’s a creatively inspired, colorful, free-spirit left to do if what I describe resonates with you?
