Dreaming Big

As an absolutely fabulous woman, what does it mean for you to dream big? What life goals have you accomplished? What goals have you set aside for a rainy day, or someday when you feel better about yourself? I was not taught as a girl that women could go out and make history; I was told by my father that my intelligence would be an asset to my husband. As Laurel Thatcher Ulrich said, "Well behaved women rarely make history." Maybe you were not so indoctrinated and are an exceptional woman who has made history. Or maybe you are someone who thinks dreaming big is paying for her child’s college tuition. There are no wrong “Big Dreams” they are all worthy of our passion and determination. Dreaming big requires confidence, courage and imagination. Check the level on your self-worth dipstick. Do you need more oil to fill up your dreaming big engine?

When we get caught in keeping our noses clean, being a good girl, or reacting to the day to day minutiae of life, we may forget that there is a universal spirit that wants us to be our whole full selves. When we trip and lose the star filled path that is our destiny we forget who we are or who we can be. We can be caught asking, “Who am I? Am I more than the problems I carry?” You are only the one who carries the problems, the one who struggles with them and seeks a solution. How easy it is to forget that we are also more than the memories, desires, and wounds of our lives. These wounds and desires may be gifts or liabilities you use as needed to either inspire you to dream bigger or to wall you up like a damsel out of Grimm’s fairy tales. Rapunzel had to wait for someone to save her from the tower rather than fashioning a rope from her long hair to save herself.

I am constantly being taught how I am self-limiting in my vision. I have to watch what I pray for because I always receive a response. I asked for time this summer to write and reorganize my business. As a result I have been given the opportunity to carefully choose who will be my new clients, and that is a good thing. I realize I need to practice dreaming bigger; that my business can take off in unexpectedly delightful ways and that I have time to write...or that life could be even better than I could possibly imagine. I am opening to a greater view than my old visions.

C Michael Smith: “Perhaps I AM Life.... the same life that sprouts in my garden, flourishes in the forest, shines in the Sun, and twinkles through your eyes.” Do these words remind and inspire you to dream bigger? When you are dreaming your life don’t forget that there is more than the reality of one foot in front of the other. Instead remember that when you dream big all hearts beat as one, as the connection between all things. This week’s exercise is to practice dreaming big. What do you really, really want to do or be in this life? What if money were no obstacle what would you do or be? Write and describe in detail what you imagine. The more details you include the better and easier it is to dream big. Dreaming big reminds us that we are all life, and that we deserve to live in the fullness designed by the universal spirit.
