God’s Pencil
"I am God's pencil, a tiny bit of pencil with which He writes what he
likes; He writes through us, and however imperfect we may be, He writes
beautifully."
-- Blessed St. Teresa of Calcutta
I love this quote – and loved it when I read about St. Theresa referring to
herself and her work as: “God’s Pencil”. What a beautiful way to put ‘it’ in
terms of having your life – and all its experiences – be utilized for a greater
good.
You know it’s interesting when people ask me about the deep transformative work
that I do with helping folks morph into their Best Selves in business
and in life. People ask "How did you get into this work?" and many
people are surprised to hear my response when I tell them: “I needed to get
into this work for me, first and foremost.”
When I began to “wake-up” and ask myself the deeper questions about life, and
really begin to take the question: “Is this all there is?” seriously, little
did I realize at the time, where the road would take me.
And what a road it has been – witnessing how the power of transformative
coaching not only changes my clients’ lives, but my own.
When I started-out in this field, I began helping people right away – but
helping to heal them, deeply heal them, on an inner level, and help them
transform into their Best Selves, their most confident, courageous, and secure
Selves - well that work came later.
See, unless I committed to doing my own ‘inner work’ (which is still something
I stand-for today and am committed to doing - forever), I never would be able
to come at my work with such deep understanding, empathy and direct experience.
And this commitment also allows me to have supreme compassion –because I’ve
been through it directly, and continue to go through things on this journey of
life.
Looking back at the beginning of my business – and my initial ‘starting out’ as
a coach, I remember praying to be used as a vehicle, an instrument, to not only
help people, but have my life and work experiences (past and present) create
more meaning in the world.
Well, you know the saying - be careful what you wish for?
That certainly rings true in my life – because my early-on commitment, and my
continuous commitment with my work and life - is to be a woman who not only
‘walks her talk’, but lives, breaths, and showers what I teach.
And as a result, I’m given plenty of material to work with.
That’s what happens when you say Yes to living your purpose – and you say Yes
to allowing your life and work experiences to be utilized for the greater good.
You may think to yourself, who me? How do my experiences have value? You’d be
immensely surprised – and not only how they have value for others –but how they
add value, and supreme healing to your own life – allowing you to see how
your piece in the puzzle is worthy and needed for the greater whole.
When you commit to being utilized as one of “God’s Pencils”, especially if you
feel the call in your heart, it’s a beautiful experience - because you get to
not only see what you’re truly made of, but you’re also introduced to the side
of you that you may have always dreamed of, yet may have never believed could
truly emerge.
It inspires me every single day to know that I’m being written through as one
of God’s tiny little pencils, and through the experiences and stories and
interactions – it’s all part of a bigger plan. And it’s exciting and humbling
to know that my own journey and mission with helping you to Claim Your Worth!®
has just begun.
So, what about your journey? Will you allow yourself to be written-through –
and allow your life and experiences to be utilized to help inspire, teach and
transform others – just by being you – past and present?
As always, it’s your choice.
