Investing in Miracles
Investing in Miracles
In this column we have focused on you feeling empowered to create your goals through the writing exercises. What if manifesting your dreams or accomplishing your goals could happen miraculously, or at least more easily, when you turn them over and forget about them? Sound crazy? Lao Tzu says, "When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be" You are a miracle. Imagine that you can invest in a miracle by giving outside your comfort zone. What will you do with this moment, with today? Imagine taking more chances, giving more kisses, cherishing more hugs, expressing more love, laughing with another more, and creating a closer relationship with loved ones.
Living in a comfort zone is like continually wearing the same old pair of black sweat pants and woolly knee socks on cold days. Old ideas are like old sweats, easy to hold onto. Through grace, at some point, I “see myself” and realize I am really tired of my old ideas – and my sweats. Throwing them in the washing machine one more time isn’t enough of a change. To change my perspective I can reach out to another person and see what they are doing. I may find in them an accurate mirror for my life. Maybe I am lucky in the first call to feel relieved that my life isn’t so bad after all. Or maybe I have to repeatedly reach out of my comfort zone to forget who I am in that moment, so I can become who I might be. Through the act of giving unconditionally I open myself to the opportunities to invest in miracles.
When I'm willing to do something differently instead of react and fall into another old idea, I grow and learn, heal, get stronger. I can choose to embrace every moment and then share each blessing. I can laugh more easily and make others laugh harder. I can share what I know and listen carefully to what others know. I can trust in God, my Higher Power, and Great Spirit. I can learn to be a good friend, while I express my love and appreciation for others. Daily I will do my best and take chances often. Each time I do these things I forget about myself and bank good energy. This good energy builds up, like a savings account for miracles. Whenever I let go of the control of my dreams they may manifest in unexpectedly wonder filled ways. Miracles happen.
This week’s exercise is to write about an experience when you unconditionally gave time and attention to someone else. Who did you gift with your attention? What did it feel like? Were you able to get out of your comfort zone and see yourself through someone else’s eyes? Did you feel more encouraged about your own life? After you have written down this experience write about the miracles that occurred in your life soon after you gave of yourself. Or if you are having a hard time seeing the miracles then write about holding onto to old ideas. Maybe it’s time to give Goodwill those sweats, and get a bathing suit instead?
It’s been a few weeks now, how is your garden growing? Have your plants sprouted, unfurled their first leaves? Regarding last week’s exercise, what did it feel like to really listen to someone else’s dreams? Do the writing exercises suggested here help you to grow, empower your dreams? What are the areas you feel stuck, or need encouragement to grow your dreams?
Lovingly written for my sweet friends who insist I sign my name here, Mari Selby.
