Magical Mystery Tour or (Can’t Get No) Satisfaction!

Albert Einstein, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” Summers over, are you feeling restless, irritable and discontent? Are there almost continuous grumblings, mumblings, and complaining going on inside your head? When this happens your mind is running the show, and there’s no satisfaction. Maybe you are thinking that someone, someplace, something other than “what is”, is got to be better than this moment. This frustration is simply a signal that it’s time to change your way of feeling. You can raise your level of feelings easily. Try grumbling lovingly. Or try complaining while wholeheartedly smiling. What happened, did you wind up laughing instead? Now that your feelings have changed you can look at your problems from a more self-loving perspective. Truly love is all you are, love is all that you are meant to be.

When you add a little love to your day, drive compassionately, speak lovingly, or do a selfless act, the world around you changes. Life doesn’t need to be about frustration and struggle. In fact, life was never meant to cause you restless discontent. On the contrary it’s a magical mystery tour, often filled with events that are better than you imagined. I invite you to give up that struggle today. There is an incredible source of love inside you that has been there all the time. You no longer need to struggle to make life work. In fact, you are supported every step of the way. Are you willing to do whatever takes to see that you are filled with that source of love? Everyone has moments that transform their life completely. A walk in nature can transport you to another emotional space. Listening or dancing to your favorite music can carry you beyond your daily worries and problems. By tapping into what sparks love in your heart you can carry that feeling with you throughout your day.

When the Beatles and the Rolling Stones first arrived on this continent I was overwhelmed by shrieks of other girls. I really did not want to be like them. So I determined that “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, and “Like a Rolling Stone” were more me. Mick Jagger’s arrogant strut appealed to me more than four sweet-faced boys. When my mother said I could have a Rolling Stones album I was thrilled. As a pre-teen I identified with the rawness and rage of the “Stones”. And as long as I felt full of rage, I was never happy with myself or my life, and addictions found their way to me. Today I hear Beatle tunes and there’s something soothing and hopeful about their message, and I like thinking of life as a “Magical Mystery Tour”.

This week’s exercise has three parts: the first part is ask yourself “How would my daily life be different if I really believed that “love is all I am, love is all that I am meant to be?” The second part is to create an experiment and do your best to live that way each moment of today. The third part is to write about this experiment. What happened when you used this rule of thumb to guide your day? What were your expectations, and then what really happened? “There's nothing you can do that can't be done. Nothing you can sing that can't be sung…All you need is love, love. All you need is love. Love is all you need.”  ~ the Beatles, “Magical Mystery Tour” 1967.
