Note Worthy Musings With Brenda Stanton Archives - Sex and The City

Sex & The City

This week is all about life-style and I’m using the analogy of the show (and movie) Sex & The City in the sense that many of us women loved that show for various reasons.

Some of us who are single related with the ladies and the trials and tribulations they had around love. Others loved the show for the fashion it exuded and the amazing social life the women enjoyed. And others simply loved the friendship and connection the women shared and how honest, real and intimate they got.

I loved the show for all those reasons and more.

What fascinated me most was how the show intertwined the main pillars of a modern woman of today threading together life-style, business/work, and romance. And the way the writers integrated these aspects into the story lines was brilliant. It made their lives feel so real, desirable, and relatable.

And that’s what movies and TV. shows are designed to do – make us feel things, exude a sense desire to want to tune-in each week because we relate with the characters. We feel some sort of connection with them and the story-line.

And the writers for Sex & The City are probably one of the best examples because look at their success in influencing and convincing us that the story-lines and script are indeed true, real, and possible. And that is their job - to get you to fantasize about what it would be like to be able to have Carrie’s free-flowing, freedom-filled, free-lancer life-style and still be able to afford all those gorgeous clothes, shoes and social life!

Yet, we get into trouble when we believe the fantasy and the story-line in these scenarios. We get into trouble when we believe what is being fed to us and that it is actually possible. Now of course we all know these are scripts and story lines that are written for pure entertainment value.

But what happens when scripts are written by people whose motivation is to convince you of things that could actually be detrimental to your own well-being and quality of life?

I’ve experienced this first-hand where over the last year and half I spent loads of money, time and resources believing in people who promised the world but delivered much less than. I followed ‘experts’ and “False Gods” in the industry who are brilliant at writing scripts to convince you that the life-styles they have are possible if you follow ‘their rules’ and ‘way’ of doing things. That if you just ‘trust them’ and invest all your money, and clear out your bank-account, and invest into what they’re teaching you, then you’ll have it all and more.

And this approach of giving power away to others – and treating others like “Gods” goes against everything that Claim Your Worth!® stands-for – and what I believe in. Yet I see now in retrospect that I needed to learn these very expensive lessons to understand how detrimental it can be to not only give your power away to others who are promising the world, but what an effect it can have on your quality of life.

What I stand for and what Claim Your Worth!® stands for is providing you with the resources and information that you need to continuously evolve and grow on your journey where you live a life that you love and know and love yourself to the core.
