Threshold of a Dream
Moody
Blues, from “Threshold of a Dream”: “When
the white eagle of the north is flying overhead, the browns, reds and golds of
autumn lie in gutters dead. Remember then, that summer birds with wings of
fire, playing. Came to witness springs new hope, born of leaves, decaying. As
new life will come from death, love will come with pleasure. Love of love, Love
of Life, and giving, without measure. Gives in return a wondrous yearn of a
promise almost seen. live hand in hand and together we'll stand on the
threshold of a dream.”
We are
all poised on the threshold of our deepest dreams. We recognize ourselves with
our toes clinging to the cliff as we consider whether to jump, fly or stay
where we are. What stops us from realizing our dreams? Our fears shape our behavior, motivations, and actions. These fears are SO deep and so strong that we
don't even realize that the fears we have are actually shaping so much of our
life. These fears cause us to look for validation outside of ourselves and we
seek safety in people who think or act like we do. We can easily find our fears
confirmed
and validated by people anxious to sell a newspaper, magazine or make their TV
show more exciting. The Truth is, listening to your
fears may keep you safe, but it's a
false safety rooted in a comfort zone that really doesn't match who you really
are.
When we are driven by these deep,
strong fears, something doesn't quite feel right in our life. Our life doesn't match who we know we are
inside, something big is missing. Sure we feel "safe" but we don't
feel connected with life coursing through us. Maybe deep down we are
terrified of people finding out who we really are? Maybe we are afraid that if people saw who we really are,
we would be rejected or punished? Maybe we fear being truly
creative? Maybe we fear that we’re not good enough, and we fear both
failure and success? Meanwhile we get toe cramps, feel frozen and place a
“nice” smile on our faces.
How do
we know what to believe? How do we begin to develop trust in our guidance,
trust in our feelings, and trust that the world we live in is filled with
goodness? We can begin to work with this acronym Face Everything and Recover
ourselves. And we can begin to explore what trust mean to us. Real safety comes when we trust
ourselves, when we trust the Universe to always be guiding us forward. Then we know that we can handle any challenge that
comes our way because it was uniquely designed by the Universe to lovingly take
us on our next step forward. Real safety comes from a Higher Energy that
we feel supporting us. Fear keeps us in
a self-imposed prison of restriction and inauthenticity. Fear keeps
us playing small and in our comfort zone, that comfort zone that's really not
all that comfortable. Who wants to die with toe cramps and a frozen smile
on our faces?
Today I am lucky to have a place in
my solar plexus that resounds with cheers when I am being myself and feeling
free enough to jump from the cliff. Still, too often when my self-will drives
me with unexplored fears, my face and toes hurt and I am definitely not in
harmony with my Universe. Today I can choose more quickly to Face Everything
and Recover myself. I begin to dance when I surrender my fears and go with the
flow. Once I surrender I find a rhythm and follow it with absolute trust. What
a dance! I am as close as I can be to be one with Nature. When I surrender my
fears I sense unheard music made of all of Nature’s elements. I find my life is
filled with more joy, more fun than I could ever imagine.
This
week’s exercise is to write down your response to the following questions. Do you think that you may have
held yourself back out of fear in some ways? What does listening to your fear
really do? What is your fear really keeping you away from? Fear holds you back from stepping up to your Bigger
Purpose. No one is saying jump now. You will fly into your purpose and
your dreams when it feels right. However, by facing your fears you gain confidence and connection to others. Your
life begins to feel like an adventure when you feel guided forwards by a loving energy that only supports you.
