Voyage of Discovery
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in
having new eyes.”
~Marcel Proust
Have you ever had daydreams of leaving ‘it all’ and moving to a deserted island
and living a much simpler life? A life where you didn’t have to worry about so
much, or have so many responsibilities – a life where you could just ‘be’?
Or maybe you’ve had daydreams of escaping ‘it all’ and going on a wild
adventure and traveling across Europe.
Whatever your day dreams may have been – or are right now – all of us at one
time of or another have dreamt of what it would be like if you could just
change everything in order to try to find everything.
If you can relate to the concept of yearning for an escape it’s quite normal – especially
when you have a real need to connect with deeper parts of yourself – parts that
are full of discovery, adventure, playfulness, and light-heartiness
What the misconception is - believing you need to escape your life as it is
today in order to experience all of this.
As the Marcel Proust quote states above, and I paraphrase, the real voyage for
each of us isn’t about going ‘out there’ and trying to find what you’re looking
for in new landscapes, but in having new eyes – being able to see what is
already all around you – right here, today, in your present life.
So the question remains is – how do you begin to have these new eyes and begin
to discover all the beauty, bliss, and joy that is already present in your life
without chucking it all and trying to escape?
Well, the first step is to focus on all that is right vs. all that is wrong.
Take some inventory of everything that is going well – what do you have to be
grateful for not only in general but every day?
Begin to literally take note of this by writing down all the abundance that
already exists in your life – and trust me – when you take note of what truly
matters to you – like your health, your loved one’s health, etc. – the simple
pleasures will out-weigh material possessions, work accomplishments, etc. any
day.
Then, the next step is to honor yourself by taking inventory of how you’ve
grown in the last six months, the last year, last 5 years. Take note of what
you feel has shifted on the inside for you.
Are you less bothered by little annoyances and go more with the flow? Have you
allowed yourself to take more risks and institute courage? Have you been
honoring yourself by taking some time for you – vs. always feeling obligated to
give, give, give to everyone else?
I know for sure that if you take some time to think back – just even six short
months ago – you’ll see growth within yourself.
Then, after you take the time to look at your life and yourself through this
lens of appreciation, its then time to go a bit deeper into some of your
cravings – what you’re yearning to do, accomplish, express, etc.
Then, imagine that whatever those cravings are – the things you yearn to
experience, have, do, etc. are really inklings to have new experiences – to be
able to have your time feel a certain way – to live a certain way – to feel a
certain way everyday.
For the next 30 days, I encourage you to go on your own voyage of discovery –
not by leaving and escaping your life, but by discovering what you already
have, who you continue to become and evolve into - and what is yearning to
be expressed through you next on your Claim Your Worth!® journey.
If you have creative aspirations that have never left you – honor them –they
aren’t pipedreams or nice-to-haves – they are musts-haves for your soul and the
only person who can allow them to be honored, and eventually birthed into the
world is you.
Will you give yourself the permission to discover and honor these aspects
within?
As always, it’s your choice.
